CSFOA Annual Scholarship Winner (2017)

Biography

Born in America, I was raised in the Caribbean among the beautiful islands of the Turks and Caicos. Growing up with strict parents, I learned to be a well rounded individual with no space for nonsensical mistakes. Leading with fairness, acceptance and respect I plan to be a helper for those in need.

The goals of my parents were to give my siblings and me the opportunity to live an average life. Although things seemed find, schooling in the Caribbean was quite difficult because I was not the smartest student in class. The year of 2013 marked my transition from the Caribbean to American as a result of the growing recession in the islands. My father continued to pursue his journey of a good living for the family by finding a place to settle down in South Florida. Beginning high school as soon as I moved was a very difficult process to handle as the school systems were very different betweent the two regions. It was especially hard to keep moving with the quick flow of high school in the United States. I was a quiet student, someone who did not want to attract any attention. I did not mind being secluded but as the months rolled on through each school year, I seemed to have gained the familiarity of many of the popular peers in school. 11th grade was the year I chose to challenge myself academically. I achieved the goal of completeing three AP classes that year. Although this was a wonderful feat, the beginning of the next school year would be met with insurmountable emotionally agony because of the sudden death of my father. This has been an enormous trial for me to face.

Peter Deodat – Artist Statement

The purpose of my art is to speak to the elements of design. My major goal is to have my pieces appealing to the eye with emphasis on the aspects of balance and symmetry to create a more captivating composition. Inclusively, my art majorly reflects dark elements; individuals who have experienced negative impacts of life can relate to many of them. Photography and Digital are the media of my choosing and I work skillfully on the program Photoshop. There I usually heavily manipulate taken photographs or concoct a contemporary geometrical piece from scratch.
