CSFOA Annual Scholarship Winner (2016)

Biography

Alison Hochman, Coral Springs High School, is the 2016 winner of The Coral Springs Festival of the Arts art scholarship. The Festival’s $1500 art scholarship is awarded to the overall winner of the Coral Springs Art Guild’s scholarship winners from each of the 5 Coral Springs high schools.

Alison is currently enrolled in Advanced Placement Studio Art Class and plans to attend the University of Florida this summer to pursue a career in interior design. She has always loved the idea of being able to capture fleeting moments through a camera and sharing them with others to enjoy. Because she wants to be an interior designer, she is very aware of spatial perception and color. Many of her photos reflect this awareness and are comprised of geometric lines and bright color palettes. To her, photography is unlike any other art form because it allows the photographer to freeze a brief moment in time and reflect back on what was occurring in the image.

The Coral Springs Festival of the Arts is held the 3rd weekend in March at the Walk on University Drive and is comprised of not only visual arts; but music, performing arts, music, and literary workshops as well, all of which are free to the public. The Festival is a private non-profit corporation and is manned entirely by volunteers. Funds needed to put on the Festival are raised from local businesses and government. Any funds raised above the expenses of the Festival are distributed back to local art non-profits in Northwest Broward.
